History of our Day Care Services

Our two day care campuses originated as separate Community Child Care Centres.  They amalgamated in April 1998 as a means of preserving the quality care small centres can provide and at the same time gaining access to a greater range of resources, staff skills and services.

Our Unley Centre officially opened as 'Rachel Child Care Centre' in February 1979.  ORANA Incorporated conceived it as a 25 place centre for pre-school children, prioritising places for children with physical and intellectual special needs.  The name Rachel was the name of one of the first child who attended the Centre.  Rachel Child Care Centre became an independent community based centre in 1990, largely due to community demand for special needs children to be integrated into all pre-schools and child care centres.

Our Parkside Centre was originally started in February 1972 by a small group of families who joined together to employ a person to care for their children.  After a short time, the group was inundated with enquires from other parents.  In recognition of the need for good quality child care, a public meeting was called to discuss the establishment of a small centre.  A Committee was erected from amongst the parents and the Community Child Care Centre formally began.

Both services are now known as 'Unley & Parkside Community Child Care Centre'.
